How long is Encounter Point?

There are two answers to this question:

  • The Arabic/Hebrew/English subtitled version in PAL runs 80 minutes
  • The English subtitled version runs 85 minutes. The DVD includes a choice of subtitles in English, Arabic, French, Portuguese or Hebrew.

What formats are available for screenings?

English subtitled version:
We have four 35mm prints, so you would have to ensure that one is available for your screening. We have an HD version of the film, a digibeta NTSC, a beta SP NTSC and DVDs. DVD format is the lowest quality for a large-scale screening so we recommend a higher resolution or quality format. The DVD also comes with a choice of Portuguese, French, Arabic and Hebrew subtitles.

Arabic/Hebrew/English (all three languages simultaneously) subtitled version:
We have one digibeta PAL and one beta SP PAL version as well as DVDs and VHS tapes for screening. The digibeta PAL and beta SP PAL versions are of far greater quality.

How can I purchase the DVD?

You may buy a copy of “Encounter Point” through our distributor, Typecast Releasing.  Please visit www.typecastfilms.com.  The DVD includes additional and extended scenes, footage from screenings and audio commentary.

*Public performance rights still require you to pay a fee to show the film to groups of 15 people or more outside of classroom use. Please read below for details on how to schedule a screening.

Pricing is as follows:

$24.99 for personal use and screenings under 15 people.

$350 for institutions (universities, colleges, high schools and libraries).

Subscribe to our e-mail list at www.justvision.org to be notified about upcoming public screenings. You may also visit www.encounterpoint.com for updates.

Are distribution rights still available?

Most distribution rights are not available. Please contact Julia Bacha (Julia(at)justvision.org) for information. Canadian broadcast rights were bought by CBC and Arab language broadcast rights were bought by Al Arabyia. DVD distribution in the US is being done by Typecast Releasing.

I would like to bring Encounter Point to my community. How can I do this?

There are several ways of bringing Encounter Point to your local community:

Buy or rent Encounter Point to screen in a community venue.
This option works best if:
--You want a more private event or have a specific audience in mind or
--You want to work with other local organizations to co-sponsor the screening
--You do not have a theater available
--You want to screen the film only once as opposed to a weeklong run in a theater
FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENT: $300/screening for public performance rights plus shipping (DVD, 35mm film print, HD format or Beta). Shipping must be done via Fedex or DHL so the prints are trackable.

Please contact screenings(at)jusvision.org to book.

Work with a local cinema to screen Encounter Point (ideally for multiple screenings).
This option is optimal if:
--You want to bring together a diverse range of audiences in a neutral space
--You partner with other organizations to reach out to your respective networks
--You do extensive outreach (email list-serves, put up posters, create and distribute fliers)
--You are confident that there will be a strong turnout
FORMATS: 35mm print, an HD version, beta SP NTSC, digibeta NTSC and DVDs. DVD is the lowest quality for a large-scale screening so we recommend one of the other formats for a theater screening. Check with us about availability of beta tapes and 35mm prints (which must be returned within two days).
FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENT: $500 guarantee v. 35%-50% of box office sales (in Canada, US, Europe, Australia) depending upon the venue plus shipping.

Please contact screenings(at)justvision.org to book.

How do I invite Encounter Point to participate in a film festival?

Simply send an e-mail to julianna(at)justvision.org to submit your request.  Financial terms are as follows:
FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENT:  $500/screening for public performance rights plus shipping (DVD, 35mm film print, HD format or Beta). Shipping must be done via Fedex or DHL so the prints are trackable.
If you opt to buy a copy of our DVD from our distributor rather then renting a copy from us, the screening fee will be $475 rather than $500 so that you can purchase a personal copy of the DVD with the money you save.

I would like to host a House Party screening.

This works best if you have less than 15 people who want to watch the film, have a discussion, and participate in some form of activism.
FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENT: As the host, you purchase a copy of the DVD through Typecast Releasing for $24.99. We would welcome a tax-deductible donation of $150 to Just Vision.  For groups larger than 15 we charge the community screening fee of $300.  Please see notes above.

You can download our screening guide online at www.encounterpoint.com as of July 31, 2007, including suggestions for organizing your own screening, discussion points, action steps, and
publicity materials.

I would like to organize a screening of Encounter Point on my college campus.

There are two ways to go about it:

Organize a screening of Encounter Point on a college campus
This is most effective if you:
--Work with diverse student organizations and academic departments as co-sponsors
--Do extensive campus outreach, as well as outreach to local communities
FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENT: $1000/screening plus shipping (35mm film print, HD or Beta tape —please check for availability). Shipping must be done via Fedex or DHL so the prints are trackable.
You may also purchase the DVD through our distributor, Typecast Releasing, at the institutional price of $350.  If you purchase the institutional DVD, you may screen Encounter Point at no additional cost as long as it is shown in an educational, non-commercial framework and no money is charged for admission.  However, if you choose to charge admission or the event is open to the wider public then it is considered a public screening and you must pay the $1000 screening fee to Just Vision.

Please contact screenings(at)justvision.org to book.

Screen Encounter Point in a high school or college classroom setting.
FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENT: Purchase the DVD through our distributor at the institutional price of $350.  This means you may screen “Encounter Point” at no additional cost as long as it is shown in an educational, non-commercial framework.

You can download our classroom guide and a screening guide online at www.encounterpoint.com as of July 31st, 2007, which includes discussion topics and activity suggestions, online resources, a glossary of key terms, and action steps

Please contact screenings(at)justvision.org to book.

What will the screening guide include?

The screening guide will include topics and questions for structured discussion following the film.

I am an educator in Israel or Palestine and I want to organize a screening. How can I?

Contact info(at)justvision.org for information on organizing a screening. We charge a sliding scale per screening for duplication fees, shipping, etc. However, the screening must be for a local audience (ie not for tourists or trips or groups that are non-Israeli and non-Palestinian).

I want to organize a screening outside of the USA, Canada, Australia, the UK, Israel and Palestine. How can I do it?

We have a sliding scale for screening fees outside the US, Canada, Australia and the UK.
Please contact info(at)justvision.org with your inquiry.

We have a version of the film with simultaneous subtitles in Arabic, Hebrew and English. It comes in DVD, digibeta PAL, beta SP PAL, and VHS and runs 80 minutes. The official DVD released by Typecast Films, includes subtitles in Portuguese, French, Arabic, Hebrew and English.

I am an educator outside of Israel, Palestine, USA, Canada, Australia and the UK and would like to show the film to my class.

We have a sliding scale for screening fees outside the Israel, Palestine, the US, Canada, Australia and the UK.
Please contact info(at)justvision.org with your inquiry.

If I pay for a screening, do I get to keep a copy of the film?

No, the screening fee is just for public performance rights for the specific screening. You are welcome to buy a copy of the DVD for personal use. Performance rights still require you to pay a fee to show the film publicly.

How do I invite a filmmaker to my screening?

Although we would like to, we cannot accept all invitations as our travel schedule is quite full. We will work with you and do our best to fulfill your requests. Our four filmmakers are based in New York, Jerusalem and Washington DC.  Our composer is available on a case-by-case basis.
FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENT: You or your organization must cover travel expenses, accommodations (food/taxis/gas/lodging), and an honorarium of $1,500/speaker (subject to change at the discretion of Just Vision).  Due to the size of the organization and travel schedules of the filmmakers, we are unable to negotiate the honorarium fee.
ALTERNATIVES : Invite a skilled facilitator to lead a group dialogue after your screening ($500 honorarium plus travel expenses outlined above).
Filmmakers may also be available for phone/video Q&A sessions for an honorarium fee of $250/speaker.

What do you recommend for a program following the screening?

In our experience, audiences need at least 15 minutes to debrief the film following the screening before jumping in to a related topic or panel. Providing audiences with an opportunity to speak with the filmmakers, to ask them about some of the choices and challenges in creating the film, as well as clarification, often provides people with a more fulfilling, complex experience.

I want to reach out to other communities to co-sponsor the screening. How can I do this?

We highly recommend bringing together diverse audiences, especially from Jewish, Arab, Muslim, Christian, and peace-related constituencies, as well as journalists and decision makers. We can help to identify individuals and groups from your city that have requested the film or DVD so you can reach out to them. In Seattle, 12 organizations -- some that had never worked together before -- cooperated to bring Encounter Point to the NorthWest Film Forum. We would love to see other cities and communities follow through in order to begin to build bridges between them.

How we the Encounter Point production team help?

Whenever possible, we post the screening on our website and inform our e-list of more than 6000 people from all over the world. We can help you reach others in your city or town who have requested copies of the film.

Will there be a curriculum to accompany the film?

There is a screening guide in English that you can download at www.encounterpoint.com. We are also working on a curriculum with Dr. Mohammed Abu Nimer, Ned Lazarus and Abraham's Vision regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict which will incorporate the film, our Online Network for Peace at www.justvision.org and other sources.

Is Encounter Point appropriate for children?

Encounter Point requires audience members to read subtitles throughout the film. It also includes a scene with an open casket and a funeral procession, so we recommend that children above the age of 12 see the film. Parents may decide that they need to debrief with their children after the film due to this particular graphic scene.

How can I issue payments?

All checks are payable to:
Just Vision Inc, a registered 501c3.

Mail to:

Just Vision PMB #226 123 Seventh Ave. Brooklyn NY 11215. Please note that this is a mailbox.

You can also pay by credit card at www.justvision.org.
